Monty and Percy are two young aristocrats sets out to go on "tour of the continent" after the end of their formal schooling. Monty assumes that this trip will be more gambling, drinking, and sleeping with anything that will have him, but he is quickly wronged. Their group is taken over by highway robbers as soon as they've left and end up in a whirlwind adventure involving pirates, a mysterious stolen box with a mysterious key inside it, and many secrets!
I LOVED the story of how being in love with your best friend can be one of the hardest things to do, especially when your best friend is not only of a different race, but the same sex. I'd never considered what a same sex couple would deal with in the 1700-1800s, but Mackenzi Lee depicts it perfectly.
I very highly recommend this book to anyone who not only loves YA, but love stories, Adventure, and historical fiction!
Beautiful! Matt DelaPena tells the story of CJ and his grandmother as they ride the bus on the way to the soup kitchen after church. On the bus, CJ asks his grandmother questions which she answers enabling him to see more than what he thinks he sees. Towards the end of the story CJ wonders how his grandmother finds the beauty in everything. A great story overall of finding joy in every day experiences.
Groovy Joe: Ice cream and Dinosaurs
Written by Eric Litwin
Illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld
Such a cute sharing book! Joe has a tub of ice cream and is enjoying it alone when three dinosaurs break down his door and want to share! I enjoyed the colors and the different genders of the dinosaurs as well as the different words to describe the dinosaurs. I also appreciated the repeated phrases. "ROAR!" This would be a fun book to use for choral reading!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Words do not do this wonderful picture book justice. The book is disguised as a tablet so as to not scare people away from their devices. Tek is a boy who is so connected to his devices that he never goes outside of his cave. His friends miss him and he is missing out on the whole world. One day something happens that causes Tek to have to disconnect and discover he beautiful world around him. If only we could find a way to force children out of their own caves today and disconnect for a little while before they, too, miss out on the beautiful world around them.
Happy Dreamer is delightful! It shows the way a child's brain may not be still, but rather bouncing around dreaming or even sitting still dreaming. It shows children that it is ok to be silly and has a beautiful fold out two page spread of different types of "dreamers."
